Ever since my son was born a year ago, I’ve been looking for a way to earn some decent money from home. We are just barely scraping by on one income, and though I could return to the job I had prior to taking maternity leave, the cost of daycare would just eat through my paycheck anyway. The best option is for me to continue staying home and to look for something I can do online. After doing some checking, I think getting a medical coding certificate is the way to go.
A medical coding certificate would allow me to perform data entry related to the health care industry. This would mostly consist of billing, which requires that I know the special codes and shorthand widely used in the profession. I can only get this through formal training, which is why I’m researching how to get a medical coding certificate. Read the rest of this entry »

When you have stubborn pimples to deal with, sometimes the topical creams and lotions found down at the corner drugstore simply aren’t strong enough to get the job done. There are even instances when prescription medications don’t work either, which can lead to frustration and despair. After all, what are you supposed to do about your skin if the dermatologist can’t even help? If you’ve tried every medication and “cure” under the sun, but still suffer from blemishes and breakouts, then perhaps it’s time to give light acne treatment a look.
Light acne treatment is a relatively new process in which patients expose their skin to special blue or red lights for a short period of time each day. This can be as little as 10-30 minutes depending on your skin condition and tolerance levels. The red and blue light acne treatment works to kill the bacteria that cause clogged pores and pimples, which can help clear your face and reveal the beautiful skin you’ve always dreamed of. Have you heard of nitroglycerin? It’s a drug that gets millions of prescriptions from American doctors every year for people who are at risk of heart attack or heart angina. When you get your symptoms, you’re supposed to pick up a pill, and tuck it under your tongue for emergency relief. And now it turns out, that those pills may not have been doing as much good as they should have – because more than half of the generic and other versions of nitroglycerin that have been on the market for years, have not had their effectiveness checked out by the FDA. Everyone knows that long-term use of cigarettes and other tobacco products can cause a whole host of health problems, including lung, mouth, and throat cancer, emphysema, and heart disease. Nicotine is a highly addictive substance, which means it requires lots of persistence, will power, and determination to break the habit. Here are a few basic tips to stop smoking.
First, if you’re serious about quitting, then you need to see your doctor. A physician can evaluate your problem and then give you some specific advice about how to get cigarettes out of your life for good. With the exception of the sumo wrestlers – those athletes whose careers depend on how massive they are – Japan is not a country you would expect has a huge problem with obesity. But they have a word for it – Metabo – and of late, they have posters with cute fat manga characters extolling the virtues of keeping your weight down and not being obese. Perhaps “obese” would not be the right word; it’s all part of the government’s program to get Japan to be in perfect shape and lose that extra recalcitrant inch or two. And somehow, the Japanese are all caught up in this. Ordinary people in cities and towns across the country, are getting government summons to report to neighborhood health clinics. The government prescribes that men should have waistlines that are no greater than 33.5 inches, and women, no larger than 35.4 inches. If you go even a half inch above, you are branded Metabo and they’ll be on your case, offering you endless motivation to lose weight. Read the rest of this entry »

The whole point of reading the latest health news these days seems to be about the sensational connections scientists make between the worst diseases, and innocent things in your life that you just don’t expect to have an effect on your health. One day you read about how you can get a miscarriage from using canned food, because they apply a coating of rust retardant on the insides of cans; and then you read about how they believe children get autism from the chemicals in food colors. Well, in keeping with the spirit of that fine line of startling disclosures, here’s a new one. Is it ever possible that if your child catches a strep throat infection, that it can lead him to problems like the OCD children can develop, or annoying tics?
That was just a rhetorical question; because scientists now are somewhat positive about the connection, and even have a fancy (aka complicated) name for it – here goes – Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infection – Pandas for short.
